ITANAGAR, Aug 10: Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) led by President Tadar Niglar on August nine took out a protest rally in Naharlagun against the killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Youth Congress workers, while vehemently condemning the dastardly act of killing, burnt the effigy of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaj Sherif and shouted slogan against Pakistan government.

NAHARLAGUN, Aug 10: Scores of resident including youths and businessmen of G Extension, Forest Colony and Damsite participated in a social service led by Ward 28 councillor Tame Kunia (Tarh), during which they repaired the footpaths, roads and speed breakers in G Extension. The social service was concluded with a friendly volleyball match between the Councillor Team and Ward Member Team. The latter won the match.

Led by Councilor Gangte Togung many local residents, staffs of PWD Naharlagun division and officers participated in the drive. It said that during the drive department of Urban and PWD department extended support in form of men and materials.
NSS special camp
ITANAGAR, Aug 10: The National Service Scheme (NSS) cell of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) conducted a special camp at Government ME School, Lekhi village.
The NSS volunteers organized various programmes, including cleanliness drive, tree plantation with distribution of saplings etc were conducted during the camp.
Around 200 student volunteers and 8 program officers participated in the camp under the guidance of Coordinator, NSS Cell, NERIST Dr. T Tuithung.
B Gamlin, Range Officer, Forest Division, Naharlagun, conducted training on tree plantation. He highlighted on the importance of proper choice of tree species and post plantation care.
Around 50 saplings of different species were planted under his supervision in the school campus. The saplings were provided by the Forest Division Naharlagun.
Head Master of ME School, Lekhi village also actively participated in the campus cleaning of the school.
Phillip, Chairman Gram Panchayat, led a team of students volunteers of NERIST to interact with the villagers of Lekhi village. They also distributed many saplings of fruit bearing plants to the villagers.
A free medical camp was also conducted by a team of medical staff led by Dr. Sushmita Taggu, M.O., NERIST Health Unit. Many villagers and students of ME school have benefitted from the camp. Some medicines were also distributed to the students. The NSS cell, NERIST also donated rice and vegetables to the Mother Home.

AALO, Aug 10: A mass Social Service “Aalo Clean Drive” initiated by District Urban Development Agency and participated by Army, ITBP, District Administration, APP, NCC, Bazar Committee and general public was held today within Aalo township. The West Siang Deputy Commissioner M. K. Sahoo, Col.G.S. Chundawat, Commandant 19 Grenadier & rank and ITBP Officers were personally present in the social service.
This is the second social service conducted on such large scale to generate awareness on cleanliness among the people of Aalo. The working tools, equipments, mask, and hand gloves were provided by the Army and DUDA Aalo. The army also catered the refreshment needs of all participants in the social service. Sena calls for pragmatic approach for horti marketing facilities
ITANAGAR, Aug 10: Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Setong Sena today called
for more pragmatic and practical approach to improve the horticultural produce marketing
system. Sena was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the office of the Chairman
Arunachal Pradesh Horticulture Produce Marketing and Processing Board (APHPM & PB)
in presence of Parliamentary Secretary, Horticulture, Honchun Ngamdam and Govt officers

He said that a small step taken today would have far reaching impact on future of horticulture marketing. Admitting that present form of horticulture marketing is still in traditional form driven by the terms of buyers or middle man from outside, Sena said since the Board is in infant stage as of now it may not be possible to improve the marketing system immediately. He, however, added that more pragmatic and practical approach is needed to improve the marketing system.
In view of huge horticulture production in the State, he also said that there is tremendous role to be played by the Board in mitigating the marketing problems faced by the farmers of the State. He suggested important measures like creation of Corpus Fund for the Board's activities, exploring the actual marketable surplus and market within the state, good market linkage with Assam counterparts and other parts of the country.
Honchun Ngamdam in his address said that there is need of providing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for perishable horticulture products acs farmers have to face heavy losses every year due to the absence of proper marketing channels for their surplus products.
Hage Kojeen, Commissioner Horticulture emphasized on strengthening the Board activities by entrusting dedicated team of officers to carry out the works of the Board in more tangible manner. He also informed about various schemes available in CSS and state sector for marketing activities.
Speaking on the occasion Kipa Niya, Chairman, APHPM & PB, requested the state Govt to give full support to the Board so that it can carry out the activities for benefit of the farmers.
APCC observes 71st anniversary of Quit India Movement
ITANAGAR, Aug 10: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has observed the 71st anniversary of August Kranti Diwas/Quit India movement at Rajiv Gandhi Congress Bhawan here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki recalled the immense contributions and sacrifices made by great leaders of the country in the Quit India Movement. He appealed the people of the state to remember the heroes of freedom movement who played important role and dedicated their lives for the freedom of the country. He also asked people to take inspiration from great leaders.
Former Chief Minister Gegong Apang also spoke on the occasion.

ITANAGAR, Aug 10: Councilor of Ward No 2 IMC Tatung Tania in association with PWD and UD organized a social service cum road maintenance programme here today from Kendriya Vidalaya No.2 to Geological Survey of India (GSI).
The first ever initiative taken by the Councilor of ward no.2 saw the participation of eminent persons like Director of Economic and Statistics, Koj Tajing and others.
The Director of Geological Survey of India (GSI) also contributed in the cause with his team of GSI. PWD & UD departments also supported the cleanliness drive by providing equipment in the program.
While interacting with the reporter Tatung and the village dwellers of Songlo Putung and Dokioso village shared their woes over the pathetic road condition of their dwellings. The villagers have been living without any proper road communication and they still didn’t have any legal way of connectivity of electricity; which was fixed by electric department in the supervision of Tatung today.
All walks of life participated in this cleanliness drive from the areas concerned. The organizers also promoted the value of health and hygiene and encouraged them to use dustbins in their localities by providing free dustbins to dispose the garbage.
ITANAGAR, Aug 10: The Students’ Union Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (SUMA) took part in the peace dharna organized by the students of GHSS, Itanagar to express their grievances before the concern authority.
Addressing the gathering, the SUMA president assured to render unconditional support for fulfillment of the genuine demands placed by the students and taking up the matter with the appropriate authority for early redressal of their grievances.
Some of the demands of the students are to provide more school buses, timely procurement of textbooks, construction of more classrooms, refund the excessive amount taken from students in the name of development and CBSE charges. The students also strongly opposed the approach road constructed in the middle of the school, which, according to them, is another form of encroachment.
Asset launches Geeta Girl’s Education campaign
Wakro, Aug 10: Pradnya Ambre, President, Army Wives Welfare Association of the 2 Mountain Division formally announced the Geeta Girl’s Education Campaign, a service initiative of the Anu Shiksha Seva Trust (ASSET) campaigning for strengthening girl child through education. Under the Geeta Girl’s Education Campaign initiated in gratitude to the 2 Mtn Div and named in honour of Ms Geeta Katoch and Lt Gen Ghanshyam Singh Katoch, book gifts will be extended to school libraries. Presently the ASSET has chosen the North East Trilogy to be gifted to schools.
Pradnya Ambre in her brief address exhorted the Apnes and rural Wakro children to do well in life and guided them to come out with flying colours. While firmly assuring the Apnes saying, “We are always there for you all, anytime you need, we are for you all.” the DAO AWWA chief further guided them to be good human beings.
Maj Gen Ashok Ambre, SM, GOC, 2 Mtn Div who was on a visit to the Lohit Brigade took out time to be with rural Wakro children. The ASSET initiated the RoBin Clean and Green campaign to commemorate the visit of the leaders from Dinjan Military Station. In a very prompt affectionate gesture of encouragement the GOC formally announced the RoBin Clean and Green campaign by the ASSET.
Gen Ashok Ambre, SM, dedicated the program by signing on the plaque for a tree planted by Hon’ble Meeta Bardalai. Under the RoBin Clean and Green Campaign ASSET will plant trees and also maintain the trees which were planted by dignitaries on their visit to the Apnes. The campaign program is initiated in gratitude to Ms Deepa Singh & Deven Singh and named in honour of Binod Saharia, corporate leader from Assam & Robin Hibu, Jt CP with the Delhi Police for the support rendered to rural Wakro. Over sixty trees are already planted under the leadership of the Bursar Apna Vidya Bhavan assisted ably by Kirti Rawat and the teachers of AVB. ASSET members who were deeply touched by the care and concern expressed so affectionately by leaders of the DAO House, assured the visiting dignitaries that such a gesture from the leaders will be reciprocated well by its members by meaningfully engaging in social work and that the not for profit motive will be followed with sincerity in letter and spirit. The involvement and support from able leaders will not only encourage social workers but will also protect many selfless efforts from distraction and wrong temptations, added the Chairman of ASSET while expressing gratitude to Brig Rajwant Singh, SM, Commander Lohit Brigade and Maj Pawan, Education Officer of the Lohit Brigade for organizing the visit. I see mountains, trees, greenery all around, I feel the cool evening breeze in my face, the sound of the beautiful rivers and streams calm me, but I realize that I have taken all these for granted and my senses have learnt to ignore this beauty that is all around me. In the recent days what I have found beautiful is the sight of town or villages with concrete structures nestled in the hills, the twinkling lights of these places representing civilization at night. I know this beautiful sight of the concrete urban landscape is an illusion as the real problems come out when you are amidst this ‘beauty’. I know that what I find beautiful is an illusion while the real beauty is being ignored by me because of its overabundance.
We in Arunachal Pradesh are blessed that we live amongst the mountains and such lush greenery. We see the abundance of natural beauty everyday but do we really notice it? We can take advantage of man’s need to experience something different and market what we have in abundance but they might not have; our tribal way of life of simplicity and adaptability, our natural forests and mountains and its beauty.
The Upper subansiri district is a place with an abundance of mountains, forests, rivers, streams, waterfall and natural beauty but very few tourists come this far to enjoy it.
Because of the under developed tourism infrastructure in the place, the kind of tourism that utilizes the already existing resources and benefits the locals can be encouraged here. Rural tourism encompassing home stays, mountain walks through hills, villages and orange orchards etc and Eco adventure tourism activities like angling, rafting (in bamboo rafts), trekking and fishing (using local methods) has a great potential here.
Only stating the potential of a place is not enough without substantiating it with true experiences. My experience of an idyllic day is a day spent in an orange orchard and enjoying the warmth of the winter sunshine and the warm hospitality of the simple villagers. The journey to the village was by road about half an hour away from Daporijo and crossing a suspension bridge and clambering up and down a hill to reach the orchard. After an hour spent plucking the choicest of oranges and filling sacks full of it, we went to a local house and were plied with warm ‘Opo’ and were given a simple and filling meal, all while watching the local wine being made and entertaining the children of the house. That’s not all; while we were taking our leave we were given arms full of locally grown green vegetables. Now isn’t it an experience we all would like to repeat?
Picnics too are a nice way to experience nature and the adaptability of the people here without relying too heavily on modern conveniences. A picnic day I spent entailed crossing to the ideal spot wading through thigh high water or by wooden boats and enjoying food that was cooked in bamboo tubes sitting under the shade of the trees and listening to the music of nature. One other memorable experience is of floating in the Subansiri River in a raft without any bottom and feeling the cold water in my feet while tightly holding on for my dear life. I also learnt about the different tribes of the district through the celebration of their festivals and seeing and experiencing their rituals, dances etc.
These experiences cannot be had anywhere else as each place is different and has its own attractions. Mountains, rivers and natural beauty can be seen all over the world but the people living here, their houses, their hospitality are unique to the place. It is such experiences that we can market to the outside world.
When I close my eyes and think of a day that I was most content in my life, what I remember is my face turned up towards the sky on a warm summer day and seeing a beautiful clear blue sky with fluffy white clouds dotted around. All around me I see mountains and greenery and hear nature’s orchestra of cicadas, birds and bees. I don’t remember the reason for my contentment (or maybe it was my awareness of nature’s beauty) but I remember feeling happy. We strive to find happiness in things, achievements and others but real happiness can also be gained by the noticing the simple beauty of nature all around us. So it should be our duty to promote such beauty and the feeling that it engenders in others too!
Science seminar on Water Cooperation, issues and challenges held
AALO, Aug10: District Level Science Seminar on the topic “ Water Cooperation: Issues & Challenges” was held under the Chairmanship of West Siang DDSE Shri Tome Doke at Hotel Toshi Palace today. Altogether 16 Schools from different parts of the district took part in the seminar. Kiyum Padu of VKV Jirdin, Onam Kambu of SFS School Aalo and Iyum Doje from Siyom Valley School stood first, 2nd and third respectively. Certificates with cash awards of Rs. 1000, 800, & 700 was awarded to the winners.
Gijum Tali DIPRO Aalo exhorted the participants to imbibe and inculcate scientific temperament in this age of science. Water sustains our life and it always important to sustain all sources of water though method of harnessing and conservation, he said. Chairing the meet, the DDSE Tome Doke said that effort is being mobilized for better participation. Pakistan is at it again.
Five soldiers have lost their lives. Indian leadership appears unfazed and wants to continue dialogue with Pakistan. One of the greatest misfortunes for India is the fact that no political leader or bureaucrat sends his progeny to the armed forces. As loss of soldiers’ lives does not impact them personally, they remain unconcerned. They do not realize that every life lost means ruination of a family – loss of a son for the parents, widowhood for the wife and orphans’ lives for the children.
It was reprehensible to see the leading spokesperson of the ruling party laughing and joking when discussing such a grave issue on TV. For him, it was nothing more than a debating matter to score points over the opponents. These insensitive people make all Indians hang their heads in shame. They do not realize that an uncaring and callous government is the worst demoralizing factor for the armed forces.

India has been repeatedly duped and cheated by Pakistan but continues to entertain hopes of a change of heart whereas Pakistan has made India the whipping boy for all the ills that it suffers from.
It is time India stops living in a fool’s paradise and reformulates its Pakistan
policy, keeping the following facts in mind:-

· Pakistan can never be India’s friend as the venom of anti-
· Deceitfulness and duplicity is its state policy and it can never be trusted.
Trust deficit is the anti-
· Harming Indian interests is the corner stone of its foreign policy. Attacks on Indian parliament, IT hub Bangalore and commercial center Mumbai show calculated selection of objectives. It never misses an opportunity to embarrass India in every world forum.
India should stop claiming that a united Pakistan is in India’s interests. There
cannot be a more blinkered view. Nations born out of a persecution complex can never

Lack of irresponsible diplomacy from our side has been shown once again in this matter. While the lack of political will has sunk India’s image in global forum, a dull reply to this bizarre incident has proved Indian ambiguity over its foreign policy.
Hope the government and policy makers will understand the cost of blood shed by the martyrs.
